So I almost didn't want to even review Las Brisas with the fear that it would cause over crowding at one of my favorite hidden gems, but heck it - they deserve their stars.

Las Brisas might be in a hairy part of town, and you might have trouble ordering if you don't speak Spanish, but if you're motivated enough to make it, I promise you won't be disappointed. It's my number one pozole spot ever. Like classic red pozole? They has. Want the more rare green pozole? They has. Want to keep it light with some white pozole? THEY HAS. They even will pack it up with all of the yummy toppings separately if you want it to go (I personally don't like sitting in on my own because it's not my crowd and it's also pretty warm inside usually).

If you're not in the mood for pozole (first of all, you should be), I also recommend the carne asada plate or a refreshing michelada. Both solid.

Visit Las Brisas (or don't so I don't have to wait in line) if you want amazing, authentic Mexican food and get a scratcher on your way out at the liquor store, my ideal trip.

Sometimes I get a special kind of hungry that only REAL Mexican food will do. Nothing else hits just right. You just know what you need. This is that.  I ordered the Green Mole plate and it came out of the kitchen just 5 feet away, just as it would at my Mom's house. It was perfect. I felt the generations of culture that created this kind of authenticity. The hand made tortillas, the Micheladas made with love, the friendly family like hospitality. Sometimes you need that.

This tiny Mexican restaurant - located in a strip mall on the corner of Flower Street and West Edinger Avenue - is well known for their Pozole Verde and freshly made corn tortillas.

The Pozole Verde, $12.99 - served with potato filled taquitos, chile relleno, chicharron (fried pork rinds), avocado slices, onions and red radishes. A full, hearty meal. Normally prepared with rojas (red) sauce, it is not as customary to find this popular Mexican soup made with the verde (green) sauce. The verde sauce is made from tomatillos or green tomatoes. It was a good introduction to this dish, although apparently I am not as big a fan of the soup as others.

The tacos, $1.99, were particularly disappointing. I ordered them with asada (beef steak) and felt the meat was under seasoned and a bit dry.

If you are a hearty meat or seafood lover, your best bet is to order off their special plates section - which comes with tortillas, rice and beans.

The Bistek Ranchero, $12.99 -  a dish with sliced beef steak prepared in a [red] tomato base, onions, garlic, green peppers and a citrus mix - was much more satisfying and delicious. Recommended.

Note: I strongly suggest choosing the corn tortillas (over flour) here because this restaurant makes them fresh and on the spot with your order. The flour tortillas, on the other hand, are store bought.

Unfortunately I love the food but the service I received today was bad. Actually the last few ordered Were either wrong or missing something . I just can't go there again . I've tried to call and they never understand what I'm saying or I had issues with Postmates . Don't recommend that service. Will never use again. They got the wrong order today and I called the restaurant and got no help there.

This place is very sketchy on the outside. What you will find inside is some nice girls doing their best at keeping costumers happy.

As a guerrerense, I was very pleasently surprised when I saw pozole verde Om the menu and Yoli (soda) on the fridge. Their menu is a mixture of Michoacán and Guerrero cusines. It was hard to pick something because everything looked so good.

Husband and I decided we will settle for the pozole verde, chilaquiles, and corn tamal with sour cream. When our pozole arrived my eyes sparkled. Huge bowl of thick pozole verde, accompanied with all the usual and right guerrerense fixings:  chicharrón, tostadas, all the veggies and spices, as well as avocado and jalapeno with cheese filling... Then the chilaquiles came, the plate was huge. You have to have chilaquiles with a fried egg on top, otherwise it's just not the same. The corn tamal was sweet and savory at the same time. The salsa verde gave it a very umami flavor.

Everything we tried that day was delicious. We can't wait to go back. Don't let the outside or even inside deceive you. This place is a true hole in the wall.
